- Ecology, history, business – a new tourist route in Zaporizhia
To pass in the serene summer afternoon on picturesque coast of the Milk river by bicycle, to see ancient monuments, to glance on a farm where breed ostriches, to have a rest in cozy rural hotel, to eat tasty, environmentally friendly food … Similar to the fairy tale? It turns out when the group of enthusiasts manages to get support of the UN, even the fairy tale can be turned into a reality. In the southeast of Ukraine, in the neighborhood of Melitopol, along the river Milk the ecological route 27 kilometers long along which by bicycle it is possible to pass with comfort to the Stone grave – an ancient sanctuary from stones and the sandstone well-known for the petroglyphs is laid, - to have a rest in a shady garden of the rural house, to try omelet from ostrich's eggs from a nearby farm. The initiative of public organizations of the Zaporozhye region of creation of such route and development of tourism was supported in Global ecological fund and PROON. About why this project drew attention, Anton Uspensky was told by the head of the Program of small grants of the Global Environment Facility in Ukraine Svetlana Nigorodova. SN: The program of small grants supports the initiatives connected with ecology and sustainable development. In this case the public organization could unite local government, the population, social activists around the idea of clean transport and environmental issues – including society of disabled people who seek to use any case to be involved in work, to feel as equals with all and to bring benefit to society. It was very interesting and coincided with the purposes of our program, as for involvement of physically disabled people. The program [development of the UN] considered necessary to support this idea to stimulate sustainable development at the local level, plus to bring benefit to people who live there: to both youth, and physically disabled people. The team of enthusiasts developed a bicycle route Photo PROON-Ukraine the Team of enthusiasts developed a bicycle route Melitopol and the Zaporozhye region in general – one of the most polluted territories of Ukraine. Therefore to propagandize an ecological and friendly way of life, housekeeping – very important element for this area. HEY: Whether led creation of a route to tourism development? It is insufficiently simple to create a route: those who uses it want to have an opportunity to have a rest, eat somewhere. Whether there was such effect of development of business in a chain? SN: Same territories, generally rural, and there founded the whole network of "green" households which accept tourists at home. On a cycle route there are indexes where it is possible to stop. In its creation private households which are engaged in agriculture, small farms with the small territory were involved in 1-3 hectares on which something is grown up, there is a yard small. And they equipped mini-hotels for reception of visitors. In addition to the route and use on it environmentally friendly transport, tourists have an opportunity to use these hotels. And it brings to owners of farms though small too, but profit and satisfaction – come to them those who use a route. In one of such cozy gardens tourists can have a rest and try tasty food PROON-Ukraine In one of such cozy gardens tourists can have a rest and try a photo tasty food HEY: And you tested this route? SN: The team of the project went, participated in a bicycle race, went together with the UN official by Ukraine, tested a route. We visited several points, met people who render tourist services, were in farms. We were there and on a bicycle race, and went separately along all route several days. Stopped, talked to people, visited villages. Also met not only performers of the project and local authorities, but even spent the night at those people who provide services in reception of tourists. HEY: You are happy with results of the work? SN: Yes! When there you go when you are on the place - it is the real inspiration for the person who works in the UN. When you see on the place when you communicate with people, you understand that work of the UN brings changes and benefit, - it very much pleases and cannot but please.
- Good living conditions – guarantee of good health and wellbeing
Researches show that inadequate living conditions can cause a number of problems with health, including respiratory diseases, a cardiovascular system, infectious diseases - such as asthma and tuberculosis and also mental diseases. First of all, in WHO draw attention to an overpopulation problem. According to basic standards of the UN, no more than three people have to live in each room. However in the different countries these requirements differ. For example, in the USA overpopulated is considered the apartment where in each room there live more than one person, and in Europe accommodation in one room of two children aged till 12 flyings is allowed. One more serious problem – cold in the apartment and bad thermal insulation. Cold air causes pneumonia and other diseases of respiratory tracts and also cardiovascular diseases. In 11 countries of the European region nearly 40 thousand people a year die of consequences of the lowered room temperature. And the countries with moderately cold winter usually pay less attention to thermal insulation and heating, and their population suffers from the problems with health caused by low room temperature more. The recommended minimum room temperature – 18 °C. Also in WHO advise to pay attention to thermal insulation of the houses located in the countries where winter, as a rule, cold. Experts also warn against too high temperature of air in houses in hot weather. The recommended maximum levels of temperature differ in the different countries: if in Boston (USA) and in London (Great Britain) it is 25 °C, then in Thailand - 32 °C. Too high room temperature involves exacerbation of cardiovascular diseases and a sleep disorder. One of important recommendations – to protect the members of household from possible injuries. Worldwide in 2016 house incidents, first of all - falling and burns became the reason of a half of all fatal cases as a result of injuries. Elderly people and children are subject to the biggest risk. WHO recommends to equip the house with devices of the notification and protection, such as protective screens at windows and fire alarm protection systems. Considering aging of the population around the world, WHO recommends to equip housing estates so that they were convenient for physically disabled people. It will help to prevent traumatism and to improve quality of life. The management of WHO developed on the basis of systematic researches also makes a number of recommendations for water quality, air, noise limit, use of asbestos and lead.
- WHO: an inoculation – a well-tried remedy from a flu pandemic
The feature of a disease is that, having begun in one point of the world, it can quickly extend, promptly assuming a pandemic scale. "It is possible to say with confidence that the next pandemic is inevitable, a question only in when it occurs what virus strain will cause it and the disease will be how heavy to proceed", - considers Venching Zhang, the Director of the program of WHO of flu. It is possible to say with confidence that the next pandemic is inevitable, a question only in when it occurs... The first in modern history a pandemic of flu, so-called "Spaniard", happened 100 flyings ago – in 1918. Over 500 million people – a third of all population of the Globe at that time caught a virus. The disease receded only two years later, having claimed the lives about 50 million people, and it many times is more, than 17 million dead in World War I. And "Spaniard" among men of 20 - 40 years though usually it is considered that in the main risk group - children and people of advanced age caused a stir in extraordinary high death rate. By the way, nothing Spanish in origin of a pandemic of 1918 was. Just its original scales became known only after the disease reached Spain. Before it already raged in France and the USA, but there data on epidemic were secret "under the war law", and in neutral Spain censorship was absent, and the truth about a killing virus opened to the whole world, well and the name, as usual, "was pasted". Today the disease and ways of its treatment is known much more, than a century ago, but a virus, constantly changing and quickly extending around the planet – people began to travel more often and quicker – poses not less serious threat to public health. Do not trust widespread "myths" about vaccines, do an inoculation prior to the beginning of a "grippny" season To explain clearly how to struggle with flu, in WHO decided to call to the aid children and held a drawing competition: young artists from Australia, Denmark, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia, El Salvador, Tajikistan, France and Switzerland tried to tell how to treat flu as to be saved from it and why you should not be afraid of inoculations. Adult specialists tried – using children's drawings – most briefly and well to tell what to do not to ache with flu and that – if the virus after all made the way in an organism. WHO experts recommend: do not trust widespread "myths" about vaccines - prior to the beginning of a "grippny" season do an inoculation.
